Term 1 Courses
English Conversation and Reading Café
This course will help new arrivals engage in talking and reading to assist with day-to-day communication. The conversation and reading café provides a positive and safe setting for English students to gain confidence practicing their English with a variety of volunteers.
The course will run two classes in Term 1, on Fridays, 10-11.30am or 4-5.30pm
Lets Learn English (Pre- Level 1 – Level 1)
The Let’s Learn English module will focus on assisting learners at beginners’ level to understand language that is used in everyday activities.
Learners will build up their vocabulary and their understanding of the language. Some writing activities are also included in the course.
Topics: hobbies, interesting facts about Australia, interesting stories…
The course will run in Term 1, on Wednesdays, 10 am-1 pm.
Introduction to Google TM Docs and Google TM Sheets (Level 2) – Get Work Ready
This course is designed for adult learners who need to upskill or reskill their digital abilities for new employment. It will help you to develop your knowledge, skills, and confidence when using digital technology in everyday workplace situations.
Topics: Creating Google Docs™ and Google Sheets™ for the Workplace including- producing a cover letter, producing a resume, engaging with workplace focussed documents in Google Docs ™ and Google Sheets™, expense spreadsheet (4), shared worklogs.
The course will run in Term 1, on Fridays,1.30-3.30pm.
Better Reading and Writing (Level 1 to Level 2)
The course is suitable for students who have previously taken English classes. It is designed to improve communication, reading, writing and accessing digital materials of various areas in everyday life.
Topics: online shopping, ordering food, understanding newsletters, at the doctor’s office….
The course will run through Term 1 and Term 2, on Mondays and Thursdays,10 am -1 pm
Literacy and Numeracy for Aged Care Level 2
The course is designed to support learners to gain understanding about the aged care industry through practical and applied learning activities. It is suitable for students who are considering obtaining Certificate III in Individual Support in future.
Topics: working in aged care, documents and records, progress notes, healthy eating, body systems, cultural diversity….
The course will run in Term 1, on Fridays, 10 am- 2.30 pm.

English Conversation and Reading Café

The course will run two classes in Term 2, on Fridays, 10-11.30am or 4-5.30pm
Basic Reading and Writing (Level 1)
The course will assist learners at beginner’s level who need to develop their literacy, numeracy, digital skills, employability and language skills for everyday living, studying and working.
Topics include reading, writing, spelling, grammar, speaking, listening, questions, pronunciation, and comprehension relating to formal and informal work and social situations.
The course will run in Term 2, on Wednesdays, 10 am-12.30 pm.
Employable Me (Level 2)
This course assists learners in identifying their strengths, interests, skills, limitations and opportunities. It is suitable for students who are exploring opportunities for employment or further studies.
Learners will develop a better understanding of themselves, what they have to offer and the areas in which they want to work.
Topics include personal strengths, employability skills, studying in TAFE, preparation for job interviews, volunteering, developing a personal action plan.
The course will run in Term 2, on Fridays, 12- 3 pm.
Care and Support Industry (Level 2) – Get Work Ready
This course is for learners who want to gain employment in the care and support industry. When completed, learners will have the opportunity to apply for any relevant positions in care and support services; and consider opportunities for further education in aged care, disability support or community health services.
Topics: job roles, person centred care, communication, safe work practices, legislation and ethics in care work…
The course will run in Term 2, on Fridays, 9.30-3pm.
Warehousing and Distribution (Level 1) – Skills for Work and Study
This course is designed o build the literacy and numeracy skills of factory and manufacturing workers; especially cleaners, process workers, machine operators and warehouse workers. It is also suitable for anyone interested in entry-level factory work.
Topics: communication, safety, hazards, manual handling, workplace cleaning…
